She was one of last year’s most hyped and written-about artists in her native country Sweden. Now Jennie Abrahamson is releasing her latest album ”While the sun’s still up and the sky is bright” in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France.

Jennie Abrahamson’s latest release was embraced by the swedish critics. The first single ”Late night show”, was widely acclaimed for its diverse sound and stayed on national and student radio playlists for several months following its release in may ’09. Once the album was released a few months later, Jennie was suddenly everywhere. She featured on the the cover of the art pages for Sweden’s biggest daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter, for instance, and reviewing the album they stated:

”… she sounds so clear and natural in her style as if this was the only way she could ever sound. It’s about art pop, light and clever, at times on a large scale but never heavy or languid. Full of strings and bumpy little rhythms and seldom without odd details in the arrangements… …and then she sings with a voice that is impossible not to associate with Kate Bush, so cunningly arch and dramatic it borders the coquettish, but it is a sound she has made her own. The more you listen, the less you hear affectation, and instead you’ll hear the underlying tranquil melancholy.”

(Nils Hansson, DN, 16/9 ’09 graded 4/5)

The road towards making and releasing Jennie Abrahamson's sophomore album had been quite a long and laborious journey. Her formative years as a musician were spent in a handful of bands, chiefly the trip-hop quartet Heed, with two albums via EMI Sweden to their credit, and the alt-country/pop band Yukon AK, whose only album was released on Nome/V2. Prior to the release of her 2007 solo debut, ”Lights”, Jennie began her own record label, How Sweet The Sound, bagging Sony Music as her Swedish distributor. Throughout this period Jennie still freelanced as a musician and toured a lot, backing Swedish artists on vocals, guitar & keys, while simultaneously maintaining a three day week teaching job AND touring Sweden with her own material. Slowly, the most fun she ever had gave way to signs of extreme fatigue as the hectic schedule took its toll. Finally, the decision was made to stop, regroup and re-assess.

After careful consideration Jennie quit her teaching job and turned down offers of further tours. During the summer of '08 she retreated to the countryside where she helped out in a friend's small bakery. There, in a tiny old house between a stable and enclosed pastures, among cinnamon rolls, apple cakes and sour dough bread, the longing to make music gradually returned. When summer ended she packed her bags and flew to New York, to be alone, to be inspired, to rest and to write. There, in the city noice and swarm, she found the calm she had lost before. She didn’t write much, only a couple of songs, but she collected ideas and recorded fragments. When Frida Hyvönen and Ane Brun played the city Jennie appeared on stage as their guest, but other than that she just read a lot, walked a lot, thought a lot and played the guitar she had borrowed from Peter, Bjorn and John’s local backline store. Upon returning to Sweden, just before christmas, she brought all her note books and her recording device up to the family cottage on the northern coastline. That is where the music happened. In the middle of the complete winter darkness, her goal was to write a brighter, more colourful album than the preceding one. After New Year's Jennie entered the studio with co-producer Johannes Berglund (with whom she worked on her debut), and began recording what was to become her second longplayer ”While The Sun’s Still Up And The Sky Is Bright”. The first single was released in may ’09, the whole album came in september ’09. After her sell out album launch show one attending blogger remarked, quite strikingly:

”Jennie is like primeval forest and neon at the same time, both nostalgia and present time, the perfect combo of a countryside summer house and a studio sublet at a fine city address”.

During the fall of '09 Jennie toured Scandinavia as support to Ane Brun, as well as performing a number of solo shows with her own band trying out the new material.

Jennie's plans for 2010 include a spring tour with her band, and the release of ”While The Sun’s Still Up And The Sky Is Bright” in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France.

The first single released in these territories will, once again, be ”Late Night Show” — a humorous showdown with an inner city playboy — together with a brilliant remix by Swedish indie darling and wizkid Robert Svensson.
